The NAIE has drafted a Code of Ethics specifically for educational interpreters. I thought you might be interested in reviewing the document. This is only a draft, I will let you know when it is completed and approved. We have a great opportunity for any sign language interpreter who is in need of CEUs or would simply like to attend a couple of amazing workshops. Lifeinterpretation, Hayes Interpreting, and Des Moines Public Schools, have collaborated to bring together a summer workshop June 7 & 8, 2019, featuring Mr. Bill Ross. We hope to see many of you there. Interpreters are often asked why it is that they wear dark colors. Aside from the fact that interpreters strive to dress in a professional manner, business casual, etc. I found an article that speaks to the issue of why it is that interpreters dress as they do. One major reason for dark colors is to reduce eye strain for the DHH students and staff that they interpret for. I thought this article quite interesting let me know your thoughts.

I thought you might be interested in reading what they have to say. NAIE is a relatively new national organization focused on interpreters who work in the field of educational interpreting. I would suggest you go to their website and view the information they have there. The fee for joining NAIE is $60 a year, but they have many resources and even webinars that are free to NAIE members.

Get your teams ready to compete! More details about the workshops and presenters along with registration information can be found on the ISRID website at www.iowastaterid.org. This looks to be a fantastic professional opportunity. Iowa State Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf will be presenting the fall conference here in Des Moines, on October 7-8, 2016. One of the activities for the weekend will be a panel discussion and presentation regarding mentoring for temporary licensed interpreters.
