My name is Anna Happ, and I just started serving the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program at Capitol View in the fall of 2020. It has been so much fun working with these kids! I earned both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Iowa. While there, I took four semesters of ASL, was a teaching assistant for the class “Manual Communication,” and participated in the aural rehabilitation preschool during one of my summers. Of course, that was 14 years ago! I’ve used sign and verbal communication to increase basic functional communication since then in pediatric outpatient clinics. So, needless to say, the students, staff, (and Google😊) are helping me learn and relearn every single day. My students have a wide variety of goals, and I feel lucky to be a part of their journeys. My e-mail is [email protected] should you wish to contact me.
Hi! My name is Jana Radke, and I am a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) at Capitol View. This is my first year joining the Capitol View team! I received my Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology from the University of Iowa. I worked as a graduate assistant in the Communication and Memory Lab and had the opportunity to intern with Children’s Hospital Colorado in Denver as a student. After graduation I worked for three years with Green Hills Area Education Agency (AEA) in Council Bluffs. I worked at several elementary and high schools in the Council Bluffs area before coming to Capitol View. In my free time you might find me reading, biking, spending time with family and friends, or cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes. I truly love working in the school setting and enjoy watching my students improve their communication skills throughout the year!
Hi there! My name is Ashton Donahue, and I am a speech-language pathologist (SLP) who serves the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program at Capitol View Elementary. I have been at Capitol View since the summer of 2011. I received my Bachelor's degree from Wartburg College in Waverly, IA and my Masters in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Northern Iowa. I use a combination of sign language and spoken English, depending on the student and their specific needs. I continue to build my own signing vocabulary and American Sign Language (ASL) skills, each and every day. A large part of my job is to provide as much visual support for the teachers and students as I can. My students work on a variety of skills during their speech sessions; sound production, articulation with visual phonics support, answering WH questions, story retell, proper grammar/syntax when writing and/or speaking, and social language. I love the challenges and rewards that my job provides, as well as being able to see my students grow as they move through preschool and elementary! Feel free to contact me with any questions. My email is [email protected]. Thanks for visiting the SLP Corner!
